Taxes are done!

Ok yes, I did procrastinate a bit, but at least they were turned in on time and I didn't have to file an extension. My boss is back from vacation tomorrow. She actually called me from the Dallas airport this evening to check in. I told her she can't go on any more vacations. The first day she was gone our phone system went down and one of the doctor's cell phone broke so I was running around all day taking care of that. It'll be good to have her back. I didn't get everything done that I wanted to. Things just kept popping up that had to be handled.

I'm getting some money back from the government. This was the first year I've ever itemized and holy cow does that home interest and property taxes really make a difference! I think I'm going to buy furniture for my empty guest room. This way if I have a roommate, I still have a room available for visitors. I just want something cheap and cute. I'll probably get a queen sized bed - I think the room is big enough for that.

On myspace I added some more stuff to my profile, but I deleted the reference to this blog. The news has been having a lot of stuff lately about people being tracked down from myspace cause people put too much information out there. It seems like it's harder on blogger to search for actual people, which I kinda like. If someone emails me on myspace I can always let them know this is here. I just don't like the idea of a ton of people I don't know checking this out. Of course, since I haven't gotten many comments lately :-( there probably aren't that many people reading this. Which then leads me to question am I doing this blog for me or for other people? I've never really kept a diary before...tried it, since that seemed like a teenage girly thing to do...but never really enjoyed it. Maybe cause my handwriting sucks so much. But, I have been enjoying this. It's kinda fun to look back a bit and remember what I was doing (of course that does make me realize how long I've been fiddling with this mosaic backsplash-Argh!). So, I'm pretty sure I'll keep this up.

Check this out

Ok, my credit card and I will have to stay away from this site.

They've got some really beautiful artwork there. Aaaahhh...run away, run away before you spend money!

Hello internet! How I've missed you so!

My cable/internet has been out for the past few days. I think the bad rain storm we had Thursday knocked some wires around. The cable guy came out today and fixed everything. It all seems to be working splendidly now.

Good update on Nathan - He and Tony will be moving to Austin in a few months. He decided on UT Austin for his PhD. Tony wants a house with a yard so they can get a dog. When they're ready I'll hook them up with some of my dog-volunteer friends at the shelter and we can make sure they get the best dog possible. I'm excited about them moving out, but at the same time, it's very surreal. I can't believe a friend from high school in CA will now be in Austin for the next 5-6 years. Now I just have to work on Heidi and Andrea.

While Nathan was out we saw V for Vendetta. It was really really good. It was long, but they packed in a lot of story. It wasn't slow at all. Everyone I've talked to that saw it liked it too. Go see it!

I've been sitting on my Netflix movies for a few weeks now. Ugh...I just need to sit down and watch some. I don't know why I keep avoiding them. I still have the whole season of Lost to watch on my DVR. I'd planned on getting to it this weekend, but it didn't work out. I started working on the backsplash on the other side of the kitchen. I had to do some strange geometry, but I didn't have to buy more backerboard. I'll work on the tiles tonight. Maybe I'll get done by this weekend (yeah right!) and AM can help me with the grout on Easter. I did finally get my care package out to Randy in Japan - it only took two months to get it together. I included some peeps and an Easter-egg dying kit. Hopefully it gets there in one piece and the chocolate doesn't melt too badly.

One thing off my mind is that I think I found the new pulls for the kitchen cabinets. Right now the pulls are shiny brass and they're ickly and old. Since I have a stainless steel sink and the lightswitch covers have a nickel edging, I think a brushed silver pull would be cute. Lowe's has a really nice one in their special order section, and it wasn't too expensive. I don't know if they charge extra for the 'order' but the price listed was less than some they had in stock. That's a couple months off, though. I have to finish the backsplash and paint all the cabinets (inside and out) first. I'm not looking forward to that, but it'll look a hundred times better than what I have now. The insides of my cabinets are peach, and the outside is cream. It's a really sloppy job. The people that painted the outside were just too lazy to do inside too. Oh well. You do it once, and then you won't have to ever worry about it again.
